THE CHEATHAM WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA WAS PURCHASED IN 1938 THROUGH 1939 FOR ABOUT $7.00 AN ACRE.  IT CONSISTS OF ABOUT 20,810 ACRES.  THIS AREA IS FUNDED BY THE SALE OF HUNTING AND FISHING LICENSES, FIREARMS, AMMUNITION, BOATING, AND EQUIPMENT.  TAX MONEY DOES NOT PAY FOR THIS NATURAL WILDLIFE AREA.  THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS WILDLIFE AREA IS TO IMPROVE AND MAINTAIN HABITATS FOR INDIGENOUS WILDLIFE ANIMALS AND SPECIES.  THIS AREA INCLUDES ABOUT 63 MILES OF "HUNTERS ACCESS" ROADS SPECIALLY RESERVED FOR HUNTERS ONLY.

Welcome to the wildlife area. Please enjoy yourself while visiting and remember to respect the enviornment.

PUBLIC SHOOTING RANGE

This is the only public range that is free of charge in the middle Tennessee area. Open from dawn until dusk except on big game hunt days. Has both pistol and rifle burms at 25, 50, and 100 yards. Capacity is 25 people.

THE BEST HUNTING AROUND

Enjoy hunting big game and small game. Even trappers can use their talents to bag some game. Their is a variety of types of animals to hunt and trap. Sure to satisfy all outdoorsmen.

CRYSTAL CLEAR WATERS

Enjoy such breath taking views as this at Cheatham Lake. There is also an abundance of aquatic creatures to discover. Fishing is a great activity for the soul.

GREAT DUCK HUNTING

Enjoy duck hunting with over 67 duck blinds in the wildlife area. The annual duck blind drawing is the first Saturday in August. Ducks are a real treasure.

HOW DO I GET THERE ? .....

 

Cross the bridge in Ashland City over the Cumberland River.  Follow the signs showing Hwy. 49w.  Go to the top of the bluff and take a left onto Hwy. 250 (Petway Rd.)  Go exactly 04 miles and you will see Swas Market on the left.  Take the left onto Griffentown Rd.  The next fork to the left will have the Wildlife Management sign, turn left there onto the gravel road.  Follow until you see the gun range, and then the main office and check-in station.
